  2. To all those who sympathized with my loss - thanks, guys.

  4. Basically, what happened was that the electrical system of the entire
  5. building I live in was outdated (back to the 50s or 60s, I guess) and a
  6. few fuses happened not to like their existance anymore, allowing massive
  7. waves of electricity to flow through my Falcon. I bet the fuses were from
  8. the 50s as well.
  9.  
  10. Not much is salvageable, I'm afraid. The controller board of the harddisks
  11. were busted - I tried to replace the SCSI drive's board with the board of
  12. a similar model, but it wouldn't boot, so I fear there's more to the
  13. problem than just the burnt board.

  15. Insurance, I hear you say? yes, it will be covered. The landlord lost a
  16. little equipment himself, and due to small infringement in my housing
  17. contract, he's responsible for damange caused by just such things. His
  18. insurance company is bound to pay for a new Falcon, though I don't believe
  19. I'll get full proce back. Probably only enough to get myself a standard
  20. model like the one I had before.

  22. Hence, the problem won't be getting a new machine. Time is a question,
  23. though not a big one. What may be the problem will be getting hold of all
  24. the software and programming tools I used to have. That's a horseload of
  25. work, and I don't look forward to the task. Cursed be me for not making
  26. frequent backups. And for not making backups at all.
