- To all those who sympathized with my loss - thanks, guys.
-
- Basically, what happened was that the electrical system of the entire
- building I live in was outdated (back to the 50s or 60s, I guess) and a
- few fuses happened not to like their existance anymore, allowing massive
- waves of electricity to flow through my Falcon. I bet the fuses were from
- the 50s as well.
-
- Not much is salvageable, I'm afraid. The controller board of the harddisks
- were busted - I tried to replace the SCSI drive's board with the board of
- a similar model, but it wouldn't boot, so I fear there's more to the
- problem than just the burnt board.
-
- Insurance, I hear you say? yes, it will be covered. The landlord lost a
- little equipment himself, and due to small infringement in my housing
- contract, he's responsible for damange caused by just such things. His
- insurance company is bound to pay for a new Falcon, though I don't believe
- I'll get full proce back. Probably only enough to get myself a standard
- model like the one I had before.
-
- Hence, the problem won't be getting a new machine. Time is a question,
- though not a big one. What may be the problem will be getting hold of all
- the software and programming tools I used to have. That's a horseload of
- work, and I don't look forward to the task. Cursed be me for not making
- frequent backups. And for not making backups at all.
-
- No, I'm not in a good mood.
-
- Rather a Bad Mood.
